Crime prevention tips for Campbell County

A safer community is a shared project. Drawn from Kyle's years working alongside our law enforcement professionals, here are practical steps that local businesses can take to protect their people, property, and customers.

Lighting, alarms, and security

Keep your property well-lit, with alarms and any security personnel clearly visible and active. Make sure activity inside can be seen from the street, and that your parking lot and exterior have strong lighting and clear sightlines.

Cameras and surveillance

Use visible cameras, and post that surveillance is in use and suspicious activity will be reported. Visible deterrence does a lot of the work.

Emergency plans and drills

Know what to do in an emergency. Mark fire exits and evacuation routes clearly, keep fire extinguishers and medical kits stocked and checked, and run drills so every employee knows their role.

Start a business watch

Coordinate with the businesses around you. Stay mindful of your surroundings and look out for one another — a block that watches together is far harder to target.

Landscaping and layout

Keep shrubs trimmed for clear lines of sight, and lay out your space so employees can see what's happening around them.

Codes and access

Change computer and door codes regularly so former employees no longer have access.
